Robbie Balmer is a singer from Brisbane, Queensland and was a contestant on The Voice in the 2014 series when he was 19.

Official Bio[]

With a voice that carries nostalgia beyond its years, Robbie believes that music goes hand in hand with happiness and swapped his university studies from engineering to music after appearing on The Voice. The now 22-year-old performs solo gigs around Brisbane covering artists including his favourites Coldplay, Radiohead, Matt Corby and Jack Johnson. He is also lead singer of band Fresco who were announced "Best Emerging Talent" in the Qube Effect in April 2016. In May 2016, they were signed by Double Drummer Music. Their first single "Separate" reached number 4 on the Triple J Unearthed Chart and their first EP is scheduled for release in 2017.

Robbie first started guitar lessons at age eight and soon discovered singing as a natural accompaniment. His vocal training allows him to explore an eclectic range of musical styles from blues and soul to rock and more alternative genres.

The Voice[]

Robbie applied for The Voice in August 2013 and sent in a video of himself singing "Sugarman" by the legendary Sixto Rodriguez. See the audition tape here.

Robbie auditioned for The Voice Australia with his performance of "I Can't Make You Love Me" by Bonnie Raitt. During the performance, he turned the chairs of Kylie Minogue, Joel Madden, and Ricky Martin. Robbie joined Kylie's team.

In the Battle round, Robbie was paired up with Jackson Thomas and they sang "Strong" [1] by London Grammar. Robbie won the battle and was chosen by Kylie and fortunately Jackson was picked up by Ricky Martin who used one of his two "Saves".

In the Showdown round, Robbie sang "[Burn for You]" and was put up against Kat Jade and Jhoanna Aguila. Robbie was chosen to proceed in a Sing-off round against Megan Longhurst and Lionel Cole. For this round, he repeated his audition song with another emotional rendition of "I can't make you love me" . Robbie won this sing-off and joined Johnny Rollins, John Lingard, and Kate Jade in the Team Kylie final 4 and also embarked on a trip to London with Team Kylie.

In the first of five live finals, Robbie sang an INXS Classic, "By My Side" [2].

In the second live final, Robbie sang a Coldplay favourite, "The Scientist" [3].

In the third live final, and Robbie's final performance on The Voice, Robbie sang "Love Lost" by Temper Trap [4].
